What are pure electric cars?
What are pure electric cars? Our all-electric vehicle technology will change the way you travel. No tailpipe emissions while driving, just pure electric gradient.
What are pure electric cars?
No exhaust pipe emissions
No carbon dioxide or nitrogen oxide emissions while driving. Nothing but the pure joy of freedom – without the environment paying the price.
New leadership
The pure-electric powertrain delivers an inspiring, silent, and refined engine, with instant torque for quick take-off and smooth linear acceleration at all speeds.
Easy to live with
- The large battery enables you to drive for a long time.
- So you don’t have to charge it much.
- When it’s time to charge the car, it’s designed to make charging easy and convenient – to the point where you can do it at home.
XC40 Recharge
- The first pure electric SUV arrives in late 2020.
- Combining true SUV design, a high-performance, long-range electric powertrain, and intelligent practicality, you no longer have to compromise on driving more sustainably.
Pure electric car – how does it work?
A pure electric car is powered by an electrically connected battery and driven by electric motors only.
Dual electric motors
The electric powertrain of the XC40 Recharge consists of two 150 kW / 300 Nm electric motors, providing high performance and a smooth driving experience.
Brake regeneration
When you brake or slow down, brake energy is transferred to the battery for a longer time. This also gives you One Pedal Drive for smoother, more controlled driving.
Powerful battery
- The large 78 kWh battery delivers over 400 km/200 miles* and can be easily charged at home or at a DC fast charging station.
- It also allows efficient pre-heating and cooling of the cabin.
- Distance ranges according to real WLTP and EPA driving cycles under conditions tuned relative to a new vehicle. Actual distance may vary.
- The numbers are based on the initial target. Final vehicle certificate pending.
How long can I drive before I need to charge the battery?
- The upcoming XC40 Recharge pure electric battery has a nominal capacity of 78 kWh.
- A fully charged battery gives you a range of more than 400 km/200 miles* in mixed driving before it needs to be recharged.
- But the actual distance is also affected by your driving style and other conditions such as outdoor temperature, weather, wind, topography, and roads.
- Other factors that affect distance are the amount of electricity you use for vehicle functions such as heating and cooling the vehicle.
- One way to improve distance is to prep your car while charging so that it’s really comfortable when you’re on the move. You can also add a heat pump that saves valuable energy.
- But the battery is likely to be charged daily whenever the car is parked where it can be charged – whether at home, at work, or in the city.
- So distance shouldn’t be a problem for everyday driving provided you have a good means of charging.
